Welcome to my web site! I am currently a Visiting Professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland. I completed my Ph.D. in the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto where my research focused on customer knowledge use and knowledge management systems.

My current research interests are in the area of knowledge management, focusing on how technology such as social media supports knowledge sharing between organizations and customers. I am also involved in several projects linking information and knowledge management to the environmental and climate change sciences. Some of my research publications have appeared in the Journal of Information Science, the Journal of Internet Commerce, the Journal of Information Technology & Politics, Government Information Quarterly, Business Information Review and the International Journal of Information Management, and been presented at conferences around the world.

I am currently teaching courses on Knowledge Management, Strategic Information Management and Information Risk Management in the Masters of Information Management program at U of Maryland. I also occasionally supervise the individual and team-experience capstone courses. Previously, I have has presented courses at the University of Toronto Faculty of Information, McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business, York University's Schulich School of Business, and McGill University's School of Business.

Before my move into academia, I gained professional experience as the Manager of Domestic Business Information Systems for a major Canadian bank. I have extensive project management and consulting experience with a telecommunications company, including website design and development. In one of the largest international accounting firms, I was a senior consultant in technology risk management & IT security.

  1. Customer knowledge management use by organizations
  2. Flow of knowledge across boundaries between organizations, customers, and stakeholders
  3. Use of social media and other KM systems
  4. Organizational behavioural security
